As if moving across the country for three months wasn't a big enough first for our family, we came back to a month full of even more firsts! September was filled with excitement as we got back into the swing of real life, and began doing some of our favorite things again.
We got back from Massachusetts with just enough time to spend a day at the cabin before Mark began his first semester of his last year in the MBA program.
We loved being with family that we hadn't seen in far too long.
As soon as school started again for Mark, the boys and I were back to finding ways to fill our days. Luckily we were able to find some new places to play. Christian had his first Laser Tagging experience and it was a total blast! The two of us had the whole place to ourselves! He was a little nervous at first, but once we got the hang of it, we had a blast chasing each other around the empty arena.
One of our favorite things about the MBA program has been all of the fun activities it has provided us. Shortly after the school year started, we had so much fun going to our first rooftop concert (and we've lived in Provo forever)! And how about those sweet lenses??
Thank goodness for MBASA, another favorite thing about the MBA program. It has also provided hours of entertainment while Mark has been busily searching for jobs and studying his heart out.
While firsts are always exciting, sometimes my poor mama heart can barely take them. September also brought Christian's first day of preschool. A co-op one day a week hardly counts as preschool, but I might as well have sent him off to college with the anxiety I felt leading up to it. Of course, Christian loved it and didn't miss me for a second.
Meanwhile, Grant and I grieved Christian's absence over a giant Shirley's cinnamon roll. It has been really fun to spend some one on one time with G and I think he appreciates it (although by the end, he's usually wandering the house calling for Christian).
September also means Mark's birthday! Although this wasn't a first for him by any means, we sure had a fun time celebrating #27! It was however the first year Mark has requested party hats as part of the celebration.
As summer began to fade we had so much fun making up for lost time with friends and family (since we spent the whole summer without them) soaking up the last of the warm days.
Being back at BYU has definitely not been a first for us, but Mark and I have loved sharing our love of BYU with our babies and watching them enjoy some of their own firsts. Christian was so excited to go to his first football game with the boys.
But I think his excitement wavered, only a little when the heat set in. We watched the rest of the game from home. Another first that was tough on my poor mama heart was Grant's first haircut. For a lot of his little life, Grant has sported the baby mullet (look closely), and it was seriously the cutest thing ever.
But, by the time I could put those cute blonde locks in a ponytail, I figured it was probably time for a trim. With the help of a big brother's example, and some cool ranch Doritos, Grant took his first haircut like a champ!
Our last first of September happened when I became a soccer mom! Thanks to MBASA, Christian started his first soccer league. We had so much fun watching him learn, and cheering from the sidelines. I did learn a lot about myself during the season, and will be working on calming my intensity and enthusiastic yelling for future games.
What a fun month September was! It sure was filled with a lot of fun firsts!
