Children's Play

It's funny how having kids changes the things you do for entertainment. It's been a good long while since Mark and I have gone to a movie, sat down for a quiet, romantic dinner, or even gone on a date for that matter. While I will admit that those things are great, and definitely needed from time to time, I have found it interesting that we are having just as much fun these days doing the things that Christian enjoys.

Instead of sitting down to a play or a movie, we are sitting down to music and story time at the library. Instead of going to a nice, fancy restaurant, we are finding ourselves at McDonald's just for the play place. Instead of getting together with a group of friends, we are surrounded by little ones laughing and playing. and we are loving it. If Christian is enjoying it, we are enjoying it. If it makes Christian happy, it makes us happy.

We are lucky however, to have friends who are in the same season as we are. A season filled with children's play and make believe. Just yesterday, we spent the day with friends at the Children's museum, and it was pretty magical.

I remember going the Children's museum as a little girl, and being in my highest heaven in the kids' sized grocery store. Christian was no different. How ironic that little kids are so enchanted by the day to day things we, as grown-ups wish we didn't have to do now (i.e. grocery shopping, gassing up the car, etc.)

What a fun place, filled with so many things to see and experience. We could have spent the whole day there, just watching Christian in his own element.

Although our definition of "fun" and "excitement" has dramatically changed since starting a family, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I think we know what fun is now, more than ever before.
